Like Water for Haircare

Water is an essential part of your life, your health, and your strength.  It should also be a vital part of your hair regimen.  Think of your scalp as a flower pot and your hair as a delicate flower. Yes, you have to digest the water to feed your hair from the roots, but your hair also longs for a thirst quencher. Ok, I know ladies you don’t want to get your hair wet because of the time/money you put into getting it fixed.  But the next time you want to skip out on that hair rinse, forget to drink 8 glasses a day or dodge the rain consider the following:

  1. Dehydration can lead to hair loss.  If your body lacks water, it lacks the ability to carry proteins to the scalp.  If you have no proteins, you have no way to make hair follicles.  Drink at least 8 glasses a day to optimize health.
  2. Keep a water bottle to mist your strands when they are dry. Gather all of your favorite hair products and read the label. What’s the first ingredient on them all? Relaxed, natural, fried and/or dyed (laid to the side), water is normally the first ingredient in products you use for moisturizing, so spritzing your own concoction made primarily with water shouldn’t be a big deal.  I mix my water with essential oils (peppermint is my favorite), jojoba oil, castor oil, coconut oil, olive oil… whatever I’m feeling at the time.  My hair loves it so that’s all that matters… The best part about what – it’s completely free (well the water is anyway…)
  3. It is essential for washing.  Think about your dirty head of hair before you washed it… Now picture it after you wash it… If nothing else, as least you’re getting rid of that buildup on your scalp when you use water.
  4. It is the ultimate moisturizer. Humidity proves this to be true in the summer months.  Walking from your car to your house and your hair is instantly POOF!  But negating the immediate distaste, think about when you touched your coils after the mishap.  They were soft and springy.  Water has that moisturizing effect on your hair.
  5. Close up those cuticles. Cool water on your coils after a warm shampoo/conditioning session seals your cuticles and leaves you with a soft, pliable coif.
  6. Cut your detangle time in half.  Having your hair fully saturated with water and good a conditioner/detangling solution in addition to your comb and/or fingers, and you will have a detangled head of hair in no time.  The water helps to add slip to the conditioner.  Don’t believe me? Try it, I dare you.

I’m sure there are 10,000 more uses for water in your hair care regimen, or maybe not… but if six can’t spark your interest, I hope your hair doesn’t resemble that of a Brillo pad should you choose to skip out on the water. #ijs
