How to Maintain a Wash and Go on Natural Hair

In a previous post, I showed you how I define my coils (what most refer to as a wash and go) on my natural hair so in this post I want to show you how I maintain a wash and go.

This post won’t be long because my method is simple.

Note: I do not sleep with a bonnet or hair wrap!

When I first wake up, I either 1) exercise or 2) take a shower.  Either way, my hair may or may not end up a little damp, mainly at the roots (especially if I work out) so I let it air dry while I get ready.

Once I’m finished doing what I do, I use my fingers, a pick and/or a blow dryer (depending on how much volume I want) and gently pull and tug at my hair, mainly concentrating on the roots because shrinkage is real and when you love big hair you do what you do to get the results you want – right?

I don’t really touch the sides and back of my hair as I love to have that tapered look, so the bulk of my styling happens in the middle.  This takes me about 2-3 minutes to complete this – IF THAT – and since I sleep on my back and my sides, only the hair there needs a gentle refresh in the mornings after.

I don’t have to do it every single day.  I only do this process when I need/want that extra height or that look. Most times I can keep that look for 2-3 days before I have to stretch it again.

Lastly, I don’t really have to do the whole hairstyle again if I just spritz my hair with water and allow my coils to form on their own.

That’s it.  You can see the whole process here:
