10 Day Green Smoothie Challenge Progress

10 Day Green Smoothie Challenge Progress

Our 10 Day Green Smoothie Challenge progress is pretty remarkable so far!  As you all may know, my husband and I decided to start the 10 Day Green Smoothie Challenge last week.  It’s been 7 days today and let me just say it has been WELL worth the lifestyle change.

We haven’t been too strict on ourselves in terms of how we wanted to approach this.  The one thing we both agreed on is making sure we drink the entire smoothie daily.  Unfortunately, we haven’t exercised as regularly as we should have, but we have been active.

My approach is completely modified since I have a bun in the oven.  I mentioned in the last post what I would eat and have pretty much stuck to that, but I have also incorporated a little more.  I don’t limit myself to just one meal a day.  In fact, I have been eating full out meals for lunch and dinner.  My meals mainly consist of a large mixed salad with black beans, chickpeas, and/or 2 hard boiled for added protein (I don’t mind having all three to be honest). I also made some vegetable soup since it’s been cold around these parts.  I skipped out on adding any salt or sugars to the soup by only using fresh vegetables to make it.  At first I thought I would be missing out, but NOT AT ALL!  I did add additional spices for extra flavor and since I’m on a spicy food kick, I make sure to add extra cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes.  So bomb.

I also have eaten ramen – yes! RAMEN!  I created an almond butter sauce with raw almond butter and coconut milk (main ingredients) and it felt like such an indulging dish with no salt and no sugar (I also use this sauce for salad dressing if I’m in a mood).  Quinoa has also been a part of my meals in the form of a veggie bowl or salad.  I’ve been in heaven since I eat whenever I want! And though I haven’t been trying to lose weight, I’ve lost 5 lbs; however, I am pretty sure those pounds were from overindulging and holiday overeating – pizzas, french toast, calzones, Christmas dinners, cakes, cookies, fast food, water retention – you know, the things we can control but choose not to.

For those interested, my husband lost 7 lbs so far by drinking the smoothies and eating one healthy meal a day.  He also isn’t strictly vegetarian and doesn’t eat the salts and sugars.  His focus is the Paleo approach.  You can learn more about that here.

We know the key to this lifestyle change – everything in moderation!  It’s important to know that it’s okay to eat, but eating the right foods is what matters!  My body has thanked me for the switch up and the baby – let’s just say he or she is extremely active and growing!

Three more days to go of the actual “challenge” before we allow ourselves to decide whether we wanna eat pizza on Friday!  Everything in moderation, right?  Keep you posted on the final 10 Day Green Smoothie Challenge progress!
