Paris – Day Two – The Walks

Today, we took a walk through the city.  We knew that most things would be closed (after all, it is Christmas day here), but we wanted to see more of the city.  The plus side: not many people on the streets.

We decided on two different walks.  The first walk was entitled “Shamelessly Chic: St. Germain and Luxembourg”.  This walk pretty much takes you around the fashion district of Paris.  We saw the Institute de France, followed by a couture culture clash, and finished with the beauty of Luxembourg.  I was undoubtedly saddened by the fact everything was closed, but I got to do what I call “window shopping” and that in itself was very budget friendly.  We continued to peruse the streets, got ourselves a crepe (can never eat too many of those) and followed the walk down to Luxembourg.  It is simply gorgeous.  In the warmer months, I can tell it is green heaven, but even still it is very surreal.  People were exercising in the park, parents were playing with their kids, and the elderly were gazing at all the action… a fairy tale in action.  Next, we walked toward the Pantheon.  In the distance we could see the Eiffel Tower (sweet).  They still had up Christmas trees and lights, so we got to experience Christmas at the Pantheon.  Also, we met a guy who was actually on his way to Charlotte soon (pretty cool)!  We took a picture for him, and we decided to walk toward the hotel.

Our second walk actually would take us right to the hotel area, and it was entitled “Latin Quarters”.  This walk takes you through the scholarly and artsy section of the city.  We had seen this walk before, but it wasn’t until we really walked down the narrow streets that developed an appreciation for the area.  There are book stands on every corner and loud music playing while tons of people flood the streets.  We are staying on the “downtown” part of town, where everyone comes to party, drink and eat.  Even on Christmas evening, the people partied like they had no care in the world.  I am absolutely in love.
