Flaxseeds

Flaxseeds are small seeds that pack a powerful punch.  First cultivated in the Babylonian times, the flaxseed is a great source of fiber and omega-3.  Fiber is essential to the diet since is responsible for, well.. you know… keeping you regular.  Omega-3 is a “good” fat.  It provides essential fatty acids to the body.  Flaxseeds come in the form of a seed, grounded or oil.  The seeds vary in color, but it does not effect their nutritional value (all flaxseeds are created equally).  Additionally, there are other health benefits related to flaxseeds including reducing heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes. Since I am vegetarian, is it a great source of daily nutrients for me.  It is recommended that a person have 1 teaspoon of oil and 1-2 tablespoons of ground seeds.  I use the flaxseeds themselves on my salads, in my oatmeal and I eat them on muffins and crackers.

I have also used it for a hair gel.  You can read about that experience here.  I am debating on whether or not I want use for my skin, too.  I have to find a good recipe to test that out.
