Paris – Day Eight – A Walk Down Memory Lane

This morning, we layed in bed and cuddled until we were ready to man the streets. It was truly our last day, and we wanted to savor the moments as much as we could, but we knew we would have to depart.  So today, we revisited some of the same stores from the day before, purchasing forgotten items and goodies to take home. We were locals now navigating our way through the streets like pros, so it took us no time to get this task done.

Uncertain of what to do for NYE we bounced a couple of ideas around in front of the desk lady.  She had some very good suggestions, but we were still unsure. There was the Arc de Triomphe where we would probably get trampled since everyone and they mommas, uncles, daddies and cousins go there (and youtube just made it look even more crazy)…  The Eiffel Tower that would probably be packed with tourists… or the Latin Quarters (we stayed in thia area and knew it would be lively).  We still didn’t know walking around shopping, but when we got back, we were happy to hear from the desk lady that we scored reservations to a swanky restaurant in the city due to a prior cancellation. #sweet

New Year’s Eve – The Countdown Begins

We got ready for dinner and were pressed for time since I took forever to get dressed.  Not wanting to show up on CPT, we thought fast – a taxi!  Welp, he dissed us, pretty much said he wouldn’t take us.  It was too late to catch the metro, and with those heels I had on I didn’t want to walk.  I ran to the room, grabbed my Chucks and we made a mad dash to the restaurant.  10 minutes later, we arrived (ON TIME) and ordered our meals.  Full and down for whatever (still no concrete plans) we decided to have a chill evening in the Latin Quarters.

We left the restaurant and walked aimlessly through the streets with no set destination. It started to rain, but we didn’t care!  We were together on NYE in Paris and that’s all that mattered.  We had already done it big by just being in Paris, regardless if we brought the New Year in with a party or a sweet little kiss in the Latin Quarters… We were together.

At 12 AM – All of the Lights

While walking, it was as if we we’re taking a walk down memory lane. The streets were all too familiar. The monuments and the attractions: we had been there, done that. We pointed at sculptures and landmarks that once were foreign to us with much certainty and a clearer understanding of what they were. We found ourselves walking toward the one place that we both felt as though was the highlight of the trip – the Eiffel Tower. We arrived just a few minutes before the clock struck 12. Everyone was cheering, laughing, having fun but doing it with the ones they loved. We were no exception to this. We hugged and kissed at the strike of the New Year, something we were unable to do last year due to prior plans we had made with friends.  We ended 2011 with a stroll with the city and started 2012 with a kiss… surreal.  But the night didn’t end there…
