Vibrant Hair Color – The How To
It never fails. I post a picture on Instagram or Facebook and I get flooded with the question “how do you keep that vibrant hair color?”
Most recently I received a bunch of messages regarding my vibrant hair color from the photos I posted for Scout’s 7 month photoshoot:

The Secret
And it’s no secret how I maintain my vibrant hair color. As a matter of fact, I’ve written about this once before now I’m guessing a few years back, but nothing has really changed.
The Process
Before anything, I lighten my hair. I discussed this process here.
Now listen: YOU DO NOT DO THIS EVERY TIME!
What you won’t say is pRoy had you hair all over the floor because of you over-processing your hair. Also, consult a hair stylist before you do anything to your hair. That way, even if you don’t use their services, you will know the consequences (good or bad) when chemically processing your hair.
I don’t revisit this technique until majority of my hair is back to it’s original color.
After lightening my hair, I add my favorite hair color. These days Ive been reaching for Color Brilliance Radiant Orchid. It’s long lasting and doesn’t seem to transfer as much as Manic Panic. I let it process for about 45 minutes, wash it out, and style my hair accordingly whether it’s a twist out or just defining my curls.
To maintain the color, I do the technique below:
Lately, I have skipped the conditioner and just used either Manic Panic Ultra Violet mixed with Hot Hot Pink or the Color Brilliance in Radiant Orchid directly on my strands. I don’t get to do my hair as often (see: infant at home: what is a bath?), so I do what I can when I can.
