Self Love Project

Self Love Project 2018 | Day Five

One thing about this self love project is that it’s doing a good job having me ask myself tough questions about where I am, right now, in my life. And today’s affirmation helped me see something that I didn’t want to acknowledge: limitations.

Today’s Affirmation

I honor and respect my limitations and thank myself for the capabilities I do have.

I like to see my life as limitless, so when I read this affirmation I scoffed.

Hard.

After repeating the affirmation a few times and releasing any negativity I associated with it during my yoga practice, I began to realize what it actually said and how it applies to my life.  See, you can still have a limitless life with immediate limitations.

My Limitations

As much as I’m a free spirit, I acknowledge I am living within certain limitations.

I live in the city, so it’s not as quiet as it would be in the suburbs or country.  I’m married to an awesome man, so I have to communicate with him my needs and wants and not leave him out when it comes to making life changing decisions.  I have a baby that is dependent on me, so I have to take that into account when making plans.  I am a dog owner, so I have to make provisions for doggy daycare when we are not around and that’s some serious cashflow at times.

Consequences

What I’ve found by identifying my limitations are they are self-imposed based on the quality of life I CHOOSE to live.  As with anything, there are consequences – good or bad – that I will have to endure based on my choices. By choosing what I want to be in my life, I am ultimately choosing what I am willing to put up with and what I am willing to do without.

Embracing Our Capabilities

Situations never stay the same.  The limitations I face now may be different in five years, but I am thankful for the opportunities they have afforded me.  Instead of putting myself down over my limitations, I just am thankful for the capabilities I do have.

Yes, I live downtown, but I am now able to use my feet and public transportation more (I spend less time in a car 🙌🏾 – better for my health and the environment).  I am married, yet I am still able to be me, completely, and have a partner in crime to do all my weird shit with.  Having a baby is a blessing!  I get to watch her grow plus I am a bomb ass mother who can give her baby all that she needs and more.  Everyone can’t own pets, but I am an owner who has the time for my pups and all the unconditional love my dogs give me makes up for any daycare expenses I will ever incur.  I am just thankful that I can even afford to make that happen!

Everything boils down to perspective.  Do you see the good in your situation?  If you don’t, are you willing to change it?
