MANE Events – Styling Hair with Flaxseed Gel

A couple of nights ago, I decided to use some Flaxseed Gel I made to braid my hair for a braid out.

I watched the following video a while ago by Naptural85, and I don’t know why I waited for so long to try it out.

I tweaked the recipe a little:

  • 1/4 Cup Flaxseeds
  • 1 Cup Water

The following ingredients were added according to my liking (no exact measurements)

  • Almond Oil
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Rosemary
  • Lavender
  • Peppermint
I used a strainer instead of a stocking (less mess) and I also threw away the flaxseeds.  I definitely was not feeling the texture, too slimy, so next time I will cut back on the water so that it can be a thicker gel.  One plus is that the smell is absolutely AMAZING.  I really like it… aroma therapy.  The application was pretty clean.  I made sure that my hair was t-shirt dried, applied the gel, and sealed it with my whipped Shea butter mixture.

All in all, I liked my results.  My hair is very shiny and I have great definition.  My hair is also very moisturized, so I doubt that I will have to apply more product within the next two-three days.  I’m debating on whether or not I want to braid my hair again or twist it up for mini twists, but I will keep you updated on this flaxseed gel adventure.

  1. Yes, definitely Whole Foods. I purchased my oils and flaxseeds from Earth Fare which is comparable to that market.
