MANE Events – 21 Day Protective Style Challenge

I’ve been wanting to do a protective style challenge for a while, but haven’t had the courage to actually follow through.  It’s a huge commitment, yanno?  You have to keep your hair in a style that will not allow for tons of manipulation.  I find that when I do wear protective styles, it is very easy for me to wrap/unwrap and go, something I love in the AMs when I am trying to get that extra 10 minutes of sleep or so.  But my issues with protective styling lie in the fact that I cannot…
…play in my hair.  Sounds absurd, I know, but I cannot resist pulling my coils out just to let them spring back toward my scalp like a rubber band or letting it all hang free.  I’m obsessed with BIG HAIR!  Additionally, I get so easily bored with the same hairstyle.  The versatility of natural hair really has me spoiled to say the least.  With that being said, this is really going to be a challenge for me.  I started on Tuesday with this up-do style that I created in less than 10 minutes:

I did a trial of wrapping it last night and unwrapping it this AM and I didn’t have to do anything to my hair.  It was just how I left it the day before. #score so it might not be so bad after all.

I will only let my hair down for washing and moisturizing.  Otherwise, it will remained tucked away for the next 2 months… *crosses fingers*.  You know what?! I’m going to go one month at a time.  Habits form in 21 days, so if I can go three weeks protective styling successfully, then I can go another 3 weeks, right?

Who’s up for the challenge?  If you are, how will you be wearing your hair? I’m thinking I will do twists and/or up-dos… 1 day down, 20 to go…

  1. You already know this is a challenge I’m doing, too! (#GREATminds)I shall be brainstorming on my next style this weekend. These ends of mine will be tucked away through the end of March as well…

I’m planning to keep up with the weekly wash-and-deep-condition regimen. My hair appreciates it! 🙂
