Self Love Project 2018 | Day Three

Three days into the self love project and I’m truly enjoying seeing everyone on their journeys!

My Affirmation

I like to get a good dose of affirmations before I stick to one.  Today was different.  I read my affirmation and no matter how much I wanted to read another one, I kept coming back to this one.  It was almost like my eyes wouldn’t part from it.

I am authentic, true, and expressive.

Authenticity

For most, authenticity doesn’t happen overnight.   It’s one of those things we have to work on.  Why?  I’d like to think it has a lot to do with how societal views persuades us to conform to the status quo.  From beauty to socio-economic constructs, we feel we need “things” or have to be a certain way to be accepted.

However, if you look around you can see the beauty in being different; in being yourself.

I’ve made great strides in becoming my authentic self, mainly by living unapologetically.  I’m not easily swayed by what someone does or says (I think for myself).  I’m not moved by keeping up with the Jones’ or living outside of my means (I live simply).  I know that everyone will not like me or be swayed by the words I say and how I live (I live anyway).

The True You

What I’ve found on this quest for self is it’s about being the purest form of you.  You control how you feel and react.  You control your thoughts, your esteem, and how you view yourself.  You are responsible to share your gifts to the world.  The power in your life belongs to you.

Likewise, authenticity is about truly being there for others, allowing them to feel how they feel, do what they do, and live how they want to live; to listen to them without judgement and to allow them to be free.  What I know from experience is when you are true to yourself, you allow others to be their authentic selves.

I said all of that to say, the best way to show love for yourself is to be yourself.  No one can be you.  No matter how hard people try, no one can think your thoughts or generate your ideas or make your mistakes.  No one can live your life better than you can.

Express Yourself!

Today’s act of self care was simple: take my hair out the twists.  Even with minimal effort into my hair and makeup, I feel damn good.  It’s something about the effort you put into yourself to look like yourself that makes you look and feel like a million bucks!
